Getting started

How do I upload my first construction drawing?

Create an account and get your trial activated, then open the workspace and click the upload area under "New takeoff". Choose the PDF containing your structural drawings (PNG / JPG also work, and you can select several files), give the project a name and click "Start takeoff". The AI analyses the set, extracts the steel members and builds the bill of materials. Most jobs finish in 15 minutes to an hour; you can close the page and we'll notify you.

What file formats does Diyi support?

PDF, PNG and JPG. We recommend vector PDFs exported from CAD: framing plans, sections, details and member schedules — the more complete the set, the better. Scanned or hand-drawn sheets degrade recognition noticeably and are not recommended.

How long does a takeoff actually take?

Most sets complete in 15 minutes to an hour; large, dense sets take longer. You don't need to keep the page open — we'll notify you when it's done.

Plans and billing

How are takeoffs counted?

By pages per job: up to 20 pages is one takeoff, 21–40 pages is two, and so on. After you pick your files the workspace shows "N pages · M takeoffs" before you start.

What happens if I exceed my monthly takeoff limit?

Once the month's takeoffs are used up you can't start new jobs; the workspace prompts you to upgrade or contact support to add more. Takeoffs reset on your monthly billing date. There is no automatic overage charge.

How does credit rollover work?

Unused takeoffs don't roll over — each month resets to your plan's allowance. Yearly billing costs 10 months (2 months free).

Can I cancel my subscription anytime?

Yes. Plans are activated month by month or yearly, stop automatically at the end of the period and never auto-charge; simply not renewing is a cancellation, and you keep access until the period ends. Contact support for any mid-term changes.

How do I get a free trial?

Create an account, then contact support (email, or the chat at the bottom right) with your login account. Support activates a trial quota and you can start uploading.

Results and export

How accurate is the AI analysis?

We don't promise a single percentage — instead every number is traceable. Each BOM row states its section basis (from drawing / estimated) and quantity basis (scheduled / counted / derived / estimated), and the uncertain rows roll up into a "tonnage to review", typically 2–8% of the total. That part is what you check; everything else traces back to the drawings.

How do I save my takeoff results?

Every takeoff is saved automatically as a job in the list on the left of the workspace — nothing to save manually. Retention depends on the plan: Trial keeps results for 30 days, Pro and above permanently.

What should I do if the analysis results seem incorrect?

Check the basis labels on the row and the "to review" summary — most discrepancies sit in rows marked as estimated. Re-run with a clearer version of the drawings, or send the job ID to support: every job keeps its full execution record, so we can see exactly what happened.

Can I export my takeoff data?

Yes. The results page provides an Excel bill of materials (BOM) and a DXF 3D model, both with online preview before download.

What steel standards do you support?

Weights are looked up from the section designations on the drawings: AISC W, HSS and common US shapes, as well as GB hot-rolled H, I, channel, angle, square/rectangular and round tubes; when the set includes a section schedule, that schedule is used. Unrecognised designations are marked "estimated" and go to the review list instead of being silently guessed.

Do you support metric drawings?

Yes. When creating a job you choose the delivery units — metric (m / kg) or imperial (ft / lb) — and both the BOM and the model are output in those units.

Account and security

Is my data secure?

Drawings and results are encrypted in transit (HTTPS), used only for your own takeoff, never for training, and never shared or sold. Results are deleted automatically when the plan's retention period ends; contact support if you need something removed earlier.

How do I contact support?

Use the chat at the bottom right of any page, or email support@dayi.ai for anything that needs a person. We don't offer phone support at the moment.
